OPEN START is The Egg’s new talent development initiative, designed to support the next generation of global majority theatre-makers in the south –west through paid employment, creative practice, mentoring and professional development. By global majority we mean people who identify as Black, Asian, Brown, dual heritage or non-white, who make up roughly 18-25% of the UK’s population and only 10% of the creative workforce. Global majority creatives are therefore currently disproportionately underrepresented in the UK theatre industry.

We believe talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn’t always equally accessible. Our OPEN START Scheme has been created to help address that by offering meaningful, paid opportunities within a professional producing theatre.

Whether you’re taking your first steps into the industry or looking to build on existing experience, our OPEN START scheme provides the chance to develop your skills alongside experienced theatre professionals while contributing to ambitious creative work at The Egg.
