New paintings by Nick Moore
CLUSTER is new series of black and white paintings on canvas influenced by concrete and visual poetry forms and the experimental graphics of Dada and Futurism. The paintings combine collaged elements with stencils to play with letters in a format akin to asemic writing. The paintings also have a resonance with graphic scores. For the first time the paintings combine elements of the three different strands of Nick’s practice.
Nick Moore is a Bristol based visual artist, poet and improvising musician. As a poet and musician, he has collaborated with dancers, visual artists, musicians and other poets – most consistently with the In-congruity Project since 1993. His work has been performed at Arnolfini, QEH Theatre, the Cube and the Exchange, Bristol and at The Rondo and Pound Arts Centre, Bath.
His paintings have been shown with selected Solo shows at Allsop Gallery, Bridport Arts Centre 2014; APT Gallery, Creekside, London 2012; Brewhouse Arts Centre, Taunton 2010; South Hill Park Arts Centre, Bracknell 2006 and Michael West Gallery, Quay Arts, Isle of Wight 2005.
He has become more interested in how writing looks on the page and experimenting with the sound of words. He has published many books exploring this relationship; in the COncreteVisualSOnicPhOnicWOrdPlay series as well as EXTEMPoRiSATIoN, a book of visual music/graphic scores. Examples of these works are held in the British Library’s contemporary print archive.
A selection of Nick’s Books will be on sale at HOURS alongside the paintings, and there will be a Reading on Saturday 3rd October at 3pm
There will be a publication to accompany this exhibition.
