Location: Court House Farm and Gardens. Church Road South, Portishead, Nr Bristol, BS20 6PU

If you’ve been longing for a few days to switch off, slow down and simply enjoy making, we’d love to welcome you to Court House Farm this September.

2–6 September 2026 | Papier Mâché Sculpture Retreat with Jim Pilston

This is so much more than a workshop.

It’s six days spent in the peaceful surroundings of our Tudor Manor, where creativity, conversation and laughter naturally become part of each day.

Under the guidance of acclaimed folk artist Jim Pilston, you’ll discover the wonderfully playful world of papier mâché, transforming reclaimed and everyday materials into expressive sculptures full of character and imagination.

Whether you’re completely new to sculpture or an experienced maker looking for something different, Jim’s relaxed and encouraging teaching style makes this retreat suitable for everyone.

Aside from the creativity, you will enjoy delicious meals prepared by our wonderful chef, Kirsty. Coffee and homemade cake in the gardens. Long lunches, evening conversations and the friendships that form around the table. Give yourself permission to slow down and immerse yourself in something joyful.

Many of our guests come on their own and quickly become part of the group.

Residential places start at £1990 + VAT for a shared room for the full retreat experience!

For those living locally, a few non-residential places are available from just £990 + VAT, including:

    • Six days of expert tuition (shorter days on the 1st and last day)
    • A delicious homemade lunch each day
    • Morning and afternoon refreshments
    • Homemade cakes
    • The feeling of a retreat experience
