Pottymouth Workshop

Pottymouth started with two ceramicists, a couple of wheels in the back of our cars, and a mission to make pottery more accessible—and a lot more fun.

We’re Naomi Stokes and Meredith Mason. We met in a shared pottery studio in Bristol, having both spent years developing our practices in clay. Naomi studied Fine Art at UWE and has a background in throwing functional, wheel-thrown vessels—mugs, bowls, jugs—the kind of things you live with every day. Meredith studied Artist Designer:Maker at Cardiff Met and works more sculpturally, often experimenting with surface textures and forms that push the boundaries of traditional ceramics.

We each had about ten years of making behind us, and a shared history of working in pubs and cafes while studying. That overlap between hospitality and craft got us thinking: what if we brought the relaxed, sociable feel of the pub into the world of pottery? Not everyone feels comfortable walking into a traditional ceramics studio—but most people feel at home with a pint in hand.

So we started running workshops in some of our favourite Bristol pubs, hauling bags of clay and boxes of tools into beer gardens and back rooms. We wanted to strip away the formality and make space for play. People loved it—and we did too.

Two years in, we found our dream studio space at Windmill Hill City Farm and began offering longer courses alongside our classic pub nights. Now, three years strong, Pottymouth has grown into a small but thriving team. We still run regular pub workshops across Bristol, Bath and the South West, and our studio now hosts handbuilding and wheel-throwing courses for all levels.

At heart, we’re still doing what we set out to do: sharing our love of clay, making people feel welcome, and keeping things down to earth.

“We did the mug making workshop and it was absolutely brilliant!! The venue (Volunteer Tavern) was the perfect setting, and Lucy and Kate were excellent at helping us understand how to use clay, and we all commented on how calming their energy was during the session. Hugely recommend!!”

“We did the chess set workshop and had the best time. Meredith was so lovely and really made it funny and engaging, will be coming back to do another workshop soon!”

“Really great, fun and immersive experience. Meredith and Naomi were more than welcoming offered us tea or coffee when we came in. The space was very welcoming and warm, me and my partner had a blast working with them for 2 hours. We highly recommend this for date night or a friend date. We’d like to thank them both for sorting our booking at and squeezing us in before the evening class so we were able to have the experience before we left Bristol”

If you fancy having a go at home we offer a clay kit, suitable for adults and children alike. You can also buy a Giftcard for someone special.
