Full time access Joinery / furniture making Bench space available in woodworking workshop.
We have opportunity becoming available next year, from 1st January 2025.
Old Market Manor CiC, a not for profit social enterprise, provides an affordable solution for those who require practical workshop access. It gives designer-makers and crafts people the ability to rent bench space in a shared joinery workshop and access commercial machinery and equipment which they may not be able to afford on their own.
Our Story so far … 10 years!
In 2015 we created one of Bristol’s first dedicated Maker-Spaces, converting a 7,000 sq ft 1960s typesetting factory into a functional maker-space near the city centre. We’re outside of the city’s CAZ and with good access to the Bristol to Bath cycle path, we also have free parking on a first come basis.
Since opening our doors we have steadily improved our facilities and have converted more of the space to accommodate the various makers that we host. The space is mainly set up for woodworking, furniture making and joinery, but we also have a resident metal fabricator who’s incredibly useful to all of us and in 2018 we introduced a small jewellery studio workshop with benches to rent, under the similar premise of sharing equipment.
What we have on offer for January 2025:
We have availability for one individual to join our community membership and rent on a month to month bases or on a short form license, a full time bench space.
-You will be full time and have access to the whole facility, which offers a dedicated serviced joinery and furniture making workshop, with access to industrial bench machinery and equipment found in commercial business.
-You’ll have your own back bench area that spans 3 meters, this include a back bench and tall steel lockable locker that you can configure as you need, plus you own 8×4 assembly table (table can be optional as we recognise makers prefer to build their own table).
-Your own large racking shelf for personal effects and we have a large communal storage separate to your area for sheets and solid timber
-24hr access (under fair terms).
-Access to our break kitchen, including use off all the household familiars.
-Adhoc use of our outside yard space.
-Off street parking (first come basis).
-Workshop is alarmed and this is also connected to police and a monitoring service by Tyco security.
-6 monthly fire alarm check and service
Machinery includes:
-Dedicated workshop dust extraction
-Martin panel saw
-Felder tilting head spindle moulder (we do provide some cutters for this machine, but more specific / specialised ones will need to be your own. We can advise on what and where to buy)
-SCM planer thicknesser
-700mm bandsaw
-Bosch sliding compound miter saw
-Union graduate lathe (some lathe tooling provided)
-Linisher and large disc sander
-Meddling pillar drill

It’s a shared workspace with a wonderful community of makers who provide support and collaboration to our growing members. We invite you to get in touch if you’re ready to make that first jump into the designer making world or simply improve on what you currently have. There’s lots more to share so please feel free to reach out and we can arrange a viewing at your convenience
