News, Opportunities & What's On: March 2019

Welcome to the March 2019 edition of the Bristol Creatives' e-bulletin.  As usual this edition is full of the latest news, opportunities, jobs, workshops, courses and exhibitions to help you develop and grow your creative practice.

This month we'd like to highlight the forcoming Enterprise Works: A Business Course for Artists, which starts on 5 March. It is a unique and practical business programme with a focus on Social Enterprise aimed at socially engaged artists and creatives who are looking to make social impact within their practice.  Led by Creativity Works and the University of Bath, it explores an array of ideas and tools that will enable you to be sustainable and effective as an artist, and to thrive as a social entrepreneur.

We believe that having a thorough grasp of business, finance, entrepreneurship, marketing and strategy can futureproof your career and be the springboard for increasing your income, making more social impact, and establishing a network of employment opportunities.  If you want to prosper in this ever-increasingly competitive and complex world, then this programme is for you!  Click here for more information.

Also don't forget if you are one of our Gold Members then it's always a good time to update your Creative Directory listing(s) and to post details of your latest exhibitions, talks, workshops, courses, opportunities, jobs and news on the website and we'll include them in the next e-bulletin that will go out on around 1 April 2019.

In the meantime don't forget to visit NewsJobs & Events for the latest opportunities and listings, and join over 9500 followers on Twitter@bristolcreative and 'like' our Facebook Page too!

Zoe Dignan - Artist making Bristol street scenes out of discarded Billboard posters taken from the heart of the city. I'm a mixed media and textile artist who lives and works in Bristol. My 'Bristol by Billboard' artwork came from a desire to create images of the city out of materials that had been in it; giving life to new rubbish and questioning what we value. My work is currently exhibited at Bristol Framing Factory and Art Warehouse in Wapping Wharf and at Spoke and Stringer, Lime Kiln Road. As well as framed originals there are limited edition prints.

Fig is a gallery and gift shop based on the Gloucester Road. We are a group of five Bristol-based artists and makers who collectively run the shop and gallery as a co-operative. Most of the work is handmade by ourselves from silver jewllery and glass ornaments to handprinted cushions, lampshades and screenprints. Every few months we feature a new guest maker.

the chemistry set - has over fifteen years experience of designing for the internet and prides itself on tailored web solutions, offering a personalised service that maintains a high degree of professionalism. including desktop, tablet and mobile-friendly website design and construction to suit all budgets, from blogs to fully-fledged e-commerce, individual online brochures, galleries and stores, flash sites and banners, plus hosting, branding, animation, soundtracks and personal tuition.

Stuart Nurse - My work is about the natural world. Using photography, paintings and drawings I try to express how trees, water, undergrowth and all that flourishes around us, often overlooked, intertwine and connect.  I hope to help those who see my work appreciate the importance of the natural world in order to preserve the diversity and quality of the environment around us.

Art Post is a purpose designed flexible system for displaying artwork.  Art Post has been designed with the artist in mind. Anything that can be hung on a wall can be hung on Art Post. The point about Art Post is that you can exhibit your art anywhere without affecting the fabric of the venue meaning no installation issues and no re-finishing on take down. The factors that make Art Post work so well for artists also make it very suitable for gallery operators to augment and maximise the use of exhibiting spaces.

25-27 Stokes Croft - Urban Design Studios has completed a renovation of a previously unloved building in the heart of Stokes Croft into a small complex of six creative studio spaces clustered round a secret courtyard, plus an unusual retail unit. Aimed at young creative business, there are self-contained studios from 32 to 63m2. Each unit is unique and has its own front door, entryphone system, wifi internet and kitchenette with hob, fridge and sink. The studios are just 200m from Broadmead and the bus station with good public transport. There are also shared shower facilities and plenty of space for bikes.

Askew Cavanna Architects - We are a small architectural design practice with our own studio space in the heart of Bristol. With a deep interest in green design and urban regeneration, our aim is to promote sustainability in all aspects of our work and work with like-minded people. We have a passion for our local area, Stokes Croft, and want to work with local people on a shared vision for the area, not one that is imposed from outside, or by the local authority. As a small business we place a high value on the benefits of collaborations with interesting people. If you would like to get to know the practice a bit more, why not give us a call and arrange to drop round for a chat over coffee.
