Bricks Bristol: Communications & Content Coordinator

Bricks is a Bristol based charity that works with local, creative and social enterprise communities to both programme collaborative activities and secure the long term spaces our communities need to thrive in the city. 

As Communications & Content Coordinator you will work across all of Bricks core areas, leading on content creation and delivery, PR and communications.

You will use a broad skill set in multi media production including content writing, social media coordination and management, photography, graphic design and video editing, to create content and engage audiences and communities in our work through digital and social channels as well as through traditional media and in person networking.

You will bring a cohesive vision across all platforms to connect our multi stranded practice, working closely with Bricks director and core area producers including the Public Art Producer, Community Producer and Artist Programme Producer to deliver joined up and coordinated communications for the whole organisation.

This could involve documenting a new public artwork, a community workshop or exhibition. It could be designing posters for an open call, arranging radio interviews, an instagram campaign, reaching out to partners to promote projects or an artist product. Working on signage and wayfinding for our new community hub, finding innovative ways to engage audiences around an artist commission or providing a comms report for a public art project client.

You will collaborate with Bricks team, local communities and artist communities to explore how a grassroots contemporary arts organisation publishes content both on and offline as part of the creative processes.

Position:  Communications & Content Coordinator

Responsible to: Director

Salary: £20,000 pro rata

Hours: 32 hours per week (4 days) including some evenings and weekends.

Contract: Salaried, PAYE. Fixed term contract – 12 months, with potential to extend

Location: On and off site, based at St Annes House, St Annes, Bristol, BS4 4AS

2021/ 22 is a busy and exciting time for Bricks with key projects including: 

  • The launch of a 12 month pilot for a creative community hub at St Annes House, including artist studios & workspace, community spaces,  community activities and potential youth space. 
  • Creative community led projects including a heritage engagement commission project and community led development work.  
  • Bricks Public Art Consultancy is active and delivering programmes in St Pauls, Lockleaze, Easton and Stoke Gifford, with more to come on board later in the year. 
  • Podcasts, micro commissions, artist talks, exhibitions, projects and events. 

ROLE

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Content creation:
    • Graphic Design (such as posters, social media, adverts)
    • Photography (Events, Exhibitions, Workshops)
    • Video making
    • Building way-finding
    • Maintaining and building on brand and company tone standards
    • Social media 
    • Newsletters
    • Editing copy created by other producers and artists. 
    • Website content oversight
  • Communications
    • Writing and sending out press releases
    • Engaging communities, journalists and publications in our work. 
    • Guerilla communications, including local poster distribution etc
    • Being an advocate for Bricks’ work and seeking out new ways to promote the company.
    • Supporting artist call outs, engagement and special events
  • Publishing Artist Content and Commissions
    • Supporting the promotion of artist and community opportunities in collaboration with project producers. 
    • Lead on the publishing of Artist commissions including; Podcasts, Artist Talks, Events, Public Art commissions
  • Evaluation
    • Creating end of project comms reports and evaluation on engagement with project producers. 
  • Duty Management
    • As part of the core Bricks team you will be scheduled on to duty management rota for St Annes House. 

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

Essential 

  • Self starter, able to operate independently as well as part of a small team
  • Proficient with graphic design and Adobe suite
  • Proficient photographer and photo editor
  • Clear writing style with attention to detail
  • A professional and confident communicator both with the Bricks team, the public, artists and key partners/clients
  • Experience of using social media platforms Instagram, Facebook, Twitter
  • Experience working with public events 
  • Experience with WordPress content management
  • Experience of Mailchimp
  • Passion for visual arts/public art/arts/culture

Desirable

  • Experience of developing innovative communication and PR opportunities
  • Experience in professional/ public context use of social media platforms
  • Experience writing communications strategies in arts context
  • Experience of writing for press and engaging press 
  • Video making and editing skills
  • AV/ technical skills for the recording and broadcasting of events
  • Experience delivering events in a blended online / offline environment
  • Experience with WordPress coding
  • Knowledge of Bristol/South West arts and culture sector
