Bristol Design Forge is a laser cutting company based in the centre of Bristol. We are looking for an Assistant Studio Manager to join our small team of three.

Assistant Studio Manager

The Assistant Studio Manager is to provide full proactive operational management to all areas of laser cutting production and managing client relationships.

This role includes working collaboratively with the Studio Manager to develop and improve the business offering whilst providing line management to the Studio Assitant, ensuring the studio operates efficiently and smoothly on a day to day basis.

The role covers a full range of operational duties to support the day to day running of the business which involves close liaising with all clients and suppliers as well as hands on practical production of orders and products.

As such, the role would suit someone with excellent organisational skills and customer service experience with a creative and technical brain.

As a small, but growing business the job holder will use their experience and initiative to research, analyse and introduce processes and improvements which will increase productivity across various areas of the laser production process.

Key responsibilities;

  • Client Management - handling calls and email enquires and processing orders.
  • Creating and submitting client quotes.
  • Producing clients artwork to a high standard.
  • Scheduling of work flow to maintain efficiency and productivity.
  • Handling client invoices - including chasing up overdue payments.
  • Using laser cutters and other equipment to produce clients orders.
  • Purchasing materials & maintaining stock levels.
  • Regular management of social media accounts.

Other responsibilities may include;

  • Managing online and offline retail space.
  • Regular maintenance of equipment and machinery.
  • Maintaining a clean and tidy working space/environment.
  • Product development.
  • Website maintenance.
  • Making delicious cups of tea.

Essential Qualities and Experience;

  • Working knowledge and experience of vector based software.
  • Excellent customer service skills and experience, via email, telephone and face to face.
  • Confident and clear communicator in English language.
  • Able to organise, prioritise and manage busy work loads competently.
  • High level of accuracy and atention to detail.
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Workflow management and email management experience.
  • Proactive ability to work with minimal supervision and use a high degree of initiative.
  • Technically minded with some knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
  • An interest in creativity, designing and producing products.
  • Experience in managing social media accounts.

Desirable Qualities and Experience;

  • Experienced at using CorelDraw.
  • Basic woodworking skills.
  • Experience using laser cutters.
  • Website maintenance - Wordpress.
  • Experience of using Quickbooks for invoicing and quoting.
  • Basic book keeping experience.
  • Driving licence.


  • Money - starting salary negotiable depending on experience; from £20,000 per annum.
  • Paid overtime, as and when available.
  • 5 weeks holiday.
  • Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm – some flexibility can be accommodated.
