Simon Caplan

Creative digital photographer specialising in colourful urban abstracts, details and 'found' still life's, often with a Bristolian flavour. 

Simon also shoots environmental portraits and has published a book of images of traditional craftworkers entitled 'Surviving, Thriving, Reviving'. In 2012, he was commissioned by the Heritage Crafts Association to provide the photography from across the UK for a national educational project on country crafts and continues to explore this aspect of British life, currently documenting the work of food makers and artisans in the south west. He was a key speaker at the M Shed in June 2015 as part of the museum's programme promoting the national touring 'Open for Business' photography exhibition.

Simon was made a Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society in June 2011.

His work has featured in many Bristol Creatives events and shows including '12 Days of Bristol Creatives' at The Showroom, College Green; Bristol Creatives' Summer Exhibition at Bristol Tourist Information Centre in 2011 and the Bristol Creatives Pop Up Department Store in 2012. Simon staged solo shows at Bristol Youth Hostel (YHA) on the city's harbourside in July and August 2011; at Rubicon Cafe, Redland in September 2011; at Baristas Coffee Shop off Victoria Street, Bristol in January 2012 and on The Grain Barge, Hotwells Road,in Spring 2012. He is currently finalising arrangements for his new solo show "ExtraordinaryOrdinary 2" at the Create Centre Cafe in September 2015.
