ArtSpace LifeSpace - The Island

The Island is a multi use arts facility and creation centre in the old police station in Bristol city centre. It hosts a wide variety of creative spaces from circus training, dance and rehearsal rooms, making spaces and artists studios to dark rooms, recording studios, a gallery and a suite of early 20th century police cells.

Up until summer 2011, The Island was a huge expansive project incorporating a fire station, the police head quarters and a courtyard complete with fire tower. It hosted spectacular 1000 capacity events and was run by volunteers and affiliates of Artspace Lifespace and The Invisible Circus. Now the old firestation has been sold to our new neighbours The Creative Youth Network who will transform it into a fantastic youth centre with a kitted out venue, café, music, and dance studios plus a range of on site advice, info and support for young people, opening in Sept 2012.

'The Island' houses the following amenities:

Affordable studio spaces for creative people
Dance training space for dance classes or workshops
Circus training space for circus skills classes or workshops
for performing arts and physical theatre and rehearsal space for theatre groups and circus companies.
A gallery/exhibition space
A great central location and a relaxed environment
