FEATURED IMAGE: 'Max' oil on canvas 2005 by Berni Vinton
My paintings focus on the wildlife and landscape of British wetlands and coastline. I use simple, pared-down compositions to evoke the stillness found in these empty places; often featuring birds and water.
I'm also interested in formal aspects of painting, especially the relationship between figure and ground which I explore through my work. I am fascinated by the tension between pictorial depth and the physical surface of the painting.
I was born in Bristol and graduated from Wimbledon School of Art in 1998.
