Spike Island has formed an exciting partnership with Bristol International Airport to initiate a transatlantic residency programme. This annual award is a unique opportunity for a Bristol based artist to spend three months living and working in New York.
The artist will fly from Bristol direct to New York with Continental Airlines. Based within a prestigious studio the artist will have the opportunity to create new work and establish a network within this iconic city. The many collections, galleries and institutions will offer the artist a valuable research opportunity and an inside view of how the contemporary art world works in New York. We welcome proposals from artists working in all media.
Application Process
Artists should submit up to 12 slides or images on CD. Moving image applications should be no longer than seven minutes in duration. Please include with your proposal any publications and reviews that support your application. In addition please submit a written proposal no longer than 1000 words describing your work; why New York would be an appropriate place for you to live and work for three months; what specific connections you would make and places you wish to visit; how this opportunity would assist your research and development of your practice. Please also include your most recent CV.
The deadline for applications is 5pm Friday 30 November 2007. Completed applications should be marked NYASA 08 and sent to Spike Island, 133 Cumberland Road, Bristol, BS1 6UX.
The Award for the first year will be announced mid January 2008.
