FEATURED IMAGE: 'Max' oil on canvas 2005 by Berni Vinton
Bristol East Side Traders (BEST) is looking to commission two new pieces of artwork for the entrance ways for two new business centres in the inner city.
The budget available for each artwork (not including manufacture) is as follows:
The Old Library: £500
The Old Schoolhouse: £400
The Brief:
BEST is refurbishing two historic and well loved buildings in the East Side:
- Trinity Road Library Building, Trinity Road BS2 0NW (to be known as “The Old Library”);
- Former Community at Heart, Salisbury Street, Barton Hill BS5 9UD (to be known as “The Old Schoolhouse”)
The new uses for the buildings are for local enterprises, of all kinds, from creative industries to training to sales and IT and many more.
The atmosphere in the buildings, which the refurbishments aim to generate, is one of professionalism, creativity, the vibrancy of the east side (inner city) location, and above all inspiration to innovate and tackle the challenges of enterprise and its relationship to the regeneration of the east side.
BEST wishes to commission an artist / artists to create original artworks reflecting these and related themes for the main lobby / entrance areas to each of these buildings.
The specification and approximate sizes for the signs / artwork are as follows:
Salisbury Street: This is an MDF board which is rapped with vinyl. The vinyl is printed with the chosen image. The image itself can be sent to the as a jpeg but should be to a high resolution. They can however scan in paper images on A4 or A3. The size will be approximately 3.4m high x 1.5m wide.
Trinity Road: A simple sketch is supplied below showing a “sail” which is envisaged to the front elevation. This shows the approximate total overall size of the sail. The artist however may wish to take into consideration the stairs. The commissioned image therefore may or may not cover the whole sail. You may also wish to consider another sail on the elevation facing the library area. The stairs on this elevation however cut across the middle of the sail so the image will need some careful thought if it is to work. The sails are a fabric material, which are fixed using strainers - all supplied and installed by the above firm.
The chosen designs will be manufactured by a separate local company.
The budget available for each artwork (not including manufacture) is as follows:
The Old Library: £500
The Old Schoolhouse: £400
Please respond to sally@bristolcreatives.co.uk. Deadline for responses is 13 June 2008. Work will be commissioned on 16 June and will need to be delivered by 27 June 2008.
