UK in Venice 2018: Call for exhibitor details 

Calling all UK architects, designers and curators who are taking part in the Venice Biennale 2018: we'd like to hear about your event or exhibition. 

As part of the British Council's UK in Venice campaign, promoting British exhibitions and events at the Venice Art and Architecture Biennales, we would like to hear about any UK practices taking part this year. Please tell us about your involvement with all the details for your event or exhibition and we can then share this as part of the UK in Venice campaign via social media.

Our Shared Cultural Heritage 

Our Shared Cultural Heritage (OSCH) is a UK-based initiative, funded by Heritage Lottery Foundation, to test new, sustainable models for better engaging young people (and particularly young people of South Asian descent) with cultural heritage in Glasgow and Manchester. OSCH is looking for a creative agency to develop and run a youth-led project design process, ensuring the approach engages and is appropriate for our target audience (a broad spectrum of young people aged 11-25, with a significant representation of young people of South Asian descent).

British Council West Africa Arts Festival Fund 

British Council is launching a West Africa Arts Fund to create stronger connections and collaborations between UK and West African festivals across a range of art forms. These connections will be facilitated through reciprocal programming of young, emerging artists between UK and West African festivals, professional development of artists and festival management teams, exchange visits between UK and West Africa and other collaborative activities between festivals in UK and West Africa.

  • Grant: up to £10k
  • Deadline: 7 March 2018
  • Open to: festivals that take place in Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone or United Kingdom (although artists in other West African countries can participate in the festivals)  

Artists' International Development Fund 

In partnership with the Arts Council England, we are investing in talented individuals to develop skills, expand horizons and introduce an international perspective to their work. For Round 18 the British Council has committed an extra £250k of funds. 

  • Grant: between £1000 and £5000
  • Deadline: 8 March 2018 (new applicants must apply by 21 February)
  • Open to: individual artists and/or creative practitioners from the UK

Rogelio Salmona Fellowship 

The British Council is seeking applications from architects and designers who have an interest in exploring the work of Rogelio Salmona and other architects and designers in Colombia for the Rogelio Salmona Fellowship.

Applications from practitioners in fields other than architecture and design are also welcome to apply (e.g. art; curatorial studies; history; social sciences or philosophy as well as architectural conservation and restoration; urban planning, architecture or design history or criticism).

  • Grant: Grant of £2,500 to cover return flights to Colombia, a travel allowance within Colombia and subsistence for a 5-week residency (or £3,000 for a 6-week residency)

UK/Germany 2018: Affiliate programme for UK based organisations

We are looking for events planned by UK based organisations or individuals to join the affiliate programme for UK/Germany 2018.

Connections through Culture – China and the UK 

Connections through Culture is a long-term programme to develop exciting cultural collaborations between artists and arts organisations, supporting long-lasting relationships between China and the UK.

Cultural Protection Fund 

In partnership with the Department for Culture Media and Sport, the British Council have launched the Cultural Protection Fund. Our objective for the new £30 million fund is to help to create opportunities for economic and social development through building capacity to foster, safeguard and promote cultural heritage in conflict-affected regions overseas.

  • Grant: £500 - £100,000+
  • Deadline: small grants will be decided on upon a quarterly basis
  • Open to: the Fund is designed with applications from UK organisations in mind, but any organisation is eligible to apply 

Short Film Travel Grant Fund 

In partnership with the BFI, British Council Film operates a Travel Grant Fund that supports filmmakers to travel to key international festivals with short films. There is a list of 60+ eligible festivals at the weblink.

Creative Europe 

Creative Europe is the European Union's programme to support the cultural, creative and audiovisual sectors. From 2014-2020, €1.46 billion is available to support European projects with the potential to travel, reach new audiences and encourage skill sharing and development. Creative Europe brings together a Culture sub-programme, which provides funding for the cultural and creative sectors, and a MEDIA sub-programme, which invests in film, television, new media and games.
