DCMS Jerwood Creative Bursaries Scheme

The Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) are working in partnership with Arts Council England to fund the DCMS Jerwood Creative Bursaries Scheme. This scheme is managed by the Jerwood Foundation and Jerwood Charitable Foundation, who work with emerging artists across all art forms and work to support their development and growth throughout their careers.

The DCMS Jerwood Creative Bursaries Scheme functions to provide bursaries to talented graduates to help kick start their career in the arts. The scheme will facilitate the development of opportunities within a series of selected arts organisations from across England including Watershed, Arts Admin, Gate Theatre and Live Art Development Agency. These opportunities will allow graduates to gain valuable work experience in the first year after they graduate from university. The bursaries are aimed at candidates whose background circumstances make it difficult for them to take up unpaid internships.

The bursary placements range over a variety of different roles across all artforms including directors, actors, musicians, artists as well as front of house, back stage and art administration roles. The length of placements are flexible, ranging from 6 to 12 months and will offer both full time and part time roles.

The DCMS Jerwood Creative Bursaries Scheme is running as a pilot programme over a two year period until March 2012 and during this time will aim to provide 40 bursaries. Successful candidates will receive a salary of £15,000 per annum pro rota during their placement; they will also be provided with support from a mentor and will be encouraged to attend important networking events that will take place throughout their placement.
