2011 dates are: June 9th, September 8th, October 13th, November 10th and December 8th.
June's featured speakers will be:
Kai Murphy - It’s not just me, it’s my camera
The talk will feature images taken in India and will cover Kai's experiences using old temperamental, 'junk shop' cameras. This is a slice of an ongoing adventure to let a camera tell its part of the story, to let the medium dictate a state of play, and the importance of imperfection, imagination, narrative, observation and manipulation.
He says "Using fragile and temperamental cameras and a variety of half rotten film dating back to the 70’s you can’t help but give in to the fact that the result of what you’re photographing is going to be split three ways - a mix of you, machine and chemical reaction. Now the camera is no longer just a box with a hole in it. It is now a characterful companion that works with you and against you".
Kai's work will be exhibited at the Corinium Museum, Cirencester, 4 - 25 June 2011.
Gary Newman - The Long View, a look at long exposure photography
Gary's talk will feature both colour and black & white landscape photographs taken in the South West and Norway.
"Early on in my photographic journey I became interested in long exposure landscape photographs, initially through night photography. I then moved on to using 10 Stop Neutral Density filters which allow me to be able to capture exposures of multiple minutes in the daytime. I remain fascinated by the wonderful effects that can be produced using this method of photography. "
